Thus says the Lord: "Stand at the crossroads and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way lies; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls."
Jeremiah 6:16a

Welcome Beloved,
It is with joy and gratitude that I welcome you to our church family – whether you’ve been part of our congregation for decades or are just now exploring what it means to walk with Christ in community. Here at Lafayette Park UMC, we are rooted in the United Methodist tradition and deeply committed to following Jesus through lives marked by love, justice, compassion, and faithful service.
Our mission is not only to gather for worship on Sunday mornings, but to live out our faith every day in ways that reflect God’s transforming love for the world. We believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ calls us beyond ourselves – into the streets of our neighborhoods, the needs of our city, and the cries of those who are marginalized and hurting. Faith is not simply about belief; it is about becoming agents of grace in a world aching for healing and hope.
We hear clearly God’s call to local ministry. We are called to be the hands and feet of Christ right here in our own community – to love our neighbors, to lift up the oppressed, to serve the poor, and to speak out against injustice wherever it is found. This calling is not reserved for pastors or church leaders; it is for each one of us. Every person has gifts to offer, and when we come together in humility and hope, we become witness to what is possible through the Spirit of God.
Justice is central to the heart of God and to this congregation. Throughout Scripture, we are reminded again and again that to follow Jesus is to care for the widow and the orphan, to welcome the stranger, to feed the hungry, and to break the chains of injustice. As United Methodists, we believe in a “social holiness” – a faith that is not private but practiced in the public square. That means we advocate for fair systems, we stand for those whose voices have been silenced, and we strive to create a world that reflects God’s kingdom values.
Compassion is our guide. We are not perfect people; we are pilgrims on a journey. Here, we extend grace freely, knowing that each of us carries our own burdens and stories. We are a church where you can come as you are – wounded, searching, rejoicing, or unsure – and find people ready to welcome you and walk alongside you in love. Through prayer, small groups, missional work, worship, and study, we grow together as disciples.
Love is our foundation. The love of God shown in Jesus Christ compels us to open our arms wide – to welcome all, to embrace diversity, and to seek reconciliation. This love is not passive. It is active, bold, and inclusive.
Service is our response. Whether it’s serving meals, mentoring children, furnishing the homes of the newly housed, or simply listening to someone who feels forgotten, we find purpose and joy when we serve others. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, echoes the love of Christ.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. I invite you to come be a part of what God is doing among us. Whether you are searching for a church home, have an abundance of questions, or looking to making a difference, you are welcome here. Let us walk together in faith, love, and justice, serving our neighbors and answering God’s call in this place.
With hope and peace,
Rev. Jennifer Adams
