Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
Psalm 95:2
Music is an essential piece of worship at Lafayette Park UMC. Hans Christian Anderson wrote “Where words fail, music speaks.” Expressing our faith through music in worship allows us to become one with the spirit, and united with one another.
Under the leadership of Music Director Cassandra Allen and Accompanist Cathy Hughes, there are many opportunities to express your faith through music and the arts in worship and the community. The Sanctuary choir sings scheduled Sundays September to May, providing musical leadership and reflection during worship. The choir rehearses Sunday mornings at 8:15am. There are opportunities for vocalists and instrumentalists to share their musical gifts during worship and special presentations such as the annual Advent Cantata.
Our beautiful sanctuary is home to our historic 2 manual, 14 rank Opus 7050 Kilgen Pipe Organ. The instrument has seen two extensive renovations in its lifetime, and has been marked for third as funds are available. To compliment the organ, the sanctuary is also home to 6’1” 1961 Kawai grand piano. Both instruments provide beautiful music for listening and singing praises to our God.
